MEMBER HANDBOOK

PERSONAL PROPERTY AND INSURANCE
The Club shall not be liable for the loss of any belongings to a member or a visitor from the Club’s premises or from motor vehicles in the car park. It is recommended that vehicles are locked at all times. Loss and damage to vehicles whilst parked in the Club’s car park is the owner’s responsibility. Members should report any incident or damage caused on or within the course boundary to the Club Secretary/Manager. All accidents/personal injuries incurred on the course must be reported to the Club/Manager or Duty Person in the Golf Shop, whereby an incident report will be completed.

DESIGNATED CAR PARKS
All named/reserved parking spaces are to be kept clear at all times for the named personnel.

MEMBERSHIP CARDS

It is a condition of your membership that you always carry your membership card or display membership bag tag while on the Club premises. This card must be available if requested to be shown on the course and in the clubrooms.

GREENS STAFF

All players are requested to give way to Green Staff/volunteers while course maintenance is being carried out. No approach shot to a green should be made unless waived on by the Green Staff or the pin is replaced by the course staff.

 

CLUB DRESS CODE
A respectable standard of dress is expected to be worn at all times on the course and in the clubrooms. Club officials and staff have the right to uphold the dress standard on the course and, at their discretion, may ask any person on the course or in the clubrooms to dress appropriately in keeping with the following:

On The Course

Not Permitted On The Course

T-shirts

       •  Track pants
       •  Beach or boxer shorts
       •  Clothing with unsightly/offensive or obscene slogans or graphics
       •  Dress shoes with hard sole/heels
       •  Jandals
       •  Boat shoes, sandshoes, athletic/running shoes with spikes
       •  Touch rugby shoes or/and boots with a hard-moulded sole

Please refer to the club notice board which shows the appropriate and inappropriate dress
standards expected of all players.

In the clubhouse a reasonable and tidy dress is expected at all times. Club officials and the duty bar manager have the Club’s authority to ensure that members and patrons of the Club are appropriately dressed at all times.

PRACTISING ON THE COURSE

Players may play a full/partial practice round on the course but are limited to TWO balls.

The practice on the course on a competition day is subject to the R & A Rules of golf.

MOTORISED TRANSPORT – GOLF CARTS AND THE LIKE
The Committee, Secretary/Manager or Duty Office Staff at all times reserve the right to grant or revoke permission to use a motorcycle, golf cart or other motorised transport on the Westown Golf Club Course. At all times users must comply with the “Terms and Conditions of Use” set down by the Club.

Note:
Carts may be used by players and their caddies for all Club Events. Members should be able to provide a medical exemption certificate if requested.

HANDICAPPING
Members are requested that ALL cards regardless of where the round was played, be entered into the members Dot Golf score menu. Cards are generated through the Dot Golf sign in kiosk in the Golf Shop once you have entered your membership number/swiped membership card through the card reader.

TEE TIMES 
Players should have obtained their new scorecard 15 minutes prior to their scheduled Tee Time. Any plyer who fails to do so or informs the Golf Shop that they are running late, may have their tee booking cancelled. In the event of being late on the 1st Tee, Rule 5.3A of the R & A.

COMPLAINTS AND SUGGESTIONS
Members are most welcome to forward complaints and suggestions. These must be in writing and submitted to the Secretary/Manager in the Golf Shop or email to Admin@westowngolfclub.co.nz. These will be referred to the appropriate club official and acknowledged accordingly.

SUSPENSION OR ABANDONMENT OF PLAY – RULE 33-2d
The Club has air-horns to signal players regarding the above. One prolonged blast on the air-horn will indicate that play is to be suspended and two prolonged blasts will indicate that play is to resume. Three short blasts indicate postponement of play and players should return to the Clubhouse where the duration of the delay will be announced. Two prolonged blasts will indicate the resumption of play. In the event of abandonment three prolonged blasts will be sounded and play will not resume that day. Players must ascertain restart requirements before leaving the course that day. At any stoppage, a player who wishes to lift their ball, rather than complete play of the hole, should first mark its position by triangulation and agree the procedure with their opponent or marker.

HOLE IN ONE

The following procedure outlines the rules and outcomes of anyone scoring a hole in one at Westown Golf Club.

A hole in one is eligible on any hole on the course, the card must be completed correctly and verified by the person marking the card by signing the card as true and correct.

 

For affiliated members, Westown Golf Club, will acknowledge this by having the players ball mounted on a plinth. The mounted ball will be then sent to the players home Club for presenting.

For Westown Golf Club members, the ball will be mounted and presented at the earliest opportunity.

This procedure is affective as of 1 June 2021.

CONDITIONS OF COMPETITIONS

The rules of the Club provide that no member shall be eligible to participate in any competition if any part of their subscription remains overdue (except those who have arranged weekly or monthly payment). The eligibility of a member to participate in any event is determined by their membership category as at the first day of the competition.

Players are responsible for playing off their correct Handicap Index and Course Handicap. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the competition.

For competition events of 18 holes or more an 18-hole Index is required to be held by the player.

All competition cards are to be entered into the DOTGOLF system or as otherwise directed by the event organizer, immediately on completion of a round. Players are responsible for recording the gross score on each hole. All cards must be signed by the player and marker. Incorrect, illegible, or incomplete scorecards will be disqualified.

 

TRESPASSER ON CLUB PROPERTY
Trespasser are prohibited to enter the club’s property and in doing so is at their own risk. Club members are requested to be conscious of persons not playing golf and there movements. If in doubt, contact the Golf Shop and report accordingly.

 

MOBILE PHONES
The use of mobile phones on the course or within the clubrooms is permitted subject to them being on SILENT MODE. Please be courteous in the use of the phone should you be close to a player or persons within the clubrooms.

DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES
The use of Distance Measuring Devices is permitted on the course for all competition formats.

PACE OF PLAY
Westown Golf Club promote READY GOLF in an effort to see the pace of play is steady and eliminates unnecessary hold ups. Please take note of the following points:

            • Be ready to play at all times. Keeping up with the group in front.

            • Leave the green immediately once all players have holed out and move to the
    next tee.
• Update the scorecard on the next tee while waiting for other members of your
   group to complete their tee shot.
• Be conscious of your position in relation to the group in front.
Play a Provisional Ball if you are in doubt of the placement of your original shot
   ie: Out of Bounds or Lost

BUNKERS

             •Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints, and then leave the rake with the handle pointing toward the tee of the hole being played.

Remember to:
•Always enter the bunker at the lowest point.
•Pull the rake toward you as you exit the bunker.
•If required rake other affected areas.
•Do not pile sand at the edge of the bunker. Push back excess sand.

 

BUNKER RAKE POLICY

•All bunkers should be raked after playing a shot. Rakes should be left outside the
  bunker, lying flat on the ground and pointed in the direction of play (parallel to the
  likely flight of the ball).

 

REPAIRING BALL MARKS

•Always start at the back of the mark and push forward with the repairer.
•Use repairer around all sides and slowly ease turf toward the centre of the mark. •Do not lift the soil upwards.

•Lightly tap down with putter.

PLAYING RIGHTS

All full playing members have full playing rights at all times except when the course has
been booked for a special event. To accommodate men’s and ladies club programmes, the course is reserved as follows:
